Let's hope for your sake that I'm right, but it sounds like you might have air in your cooling system. You say you had your egr cooler replaced.. If the cooling system wasn't burped completely(there is a bleeder screw above your exhaust manifold) and there is air in the system, it will also cause the symptoms you described. I would try that, and also pull the thermostat and boil it. Stick a candy thermometer in the pot and watch to see that the thermostat is opening at the correct temp. Have the radiator cap tested as well. Check the cheap and easy things first before you panic and spend money that you don't need to spend yet. Hopefully you'll find it's nothing major.

 

jonathon i sold studs for a 6.7 truck last week. i am goin stick these allen bolts in mine before head start leaking one at a time. studs will fix your problem with a good gasket.

 

studs will not solve your problem..you need to reduce drive pressures..running a stock turbo with any tuner will cause crazy drive pressures u need a wastegate....studs will make it last just a lil longer but it will still end up blowing a gasket

 

ETX, the burping thing shouldnt matter, as it was doing this before they replaced the cooler. As for going over the little stuff, thats a good idea. Im still not sure if its a headgasket, the dealership swears its not a headgasket or a thermostat.

 

to push coolant out of the resivoir you have to be adding air (compression) to the system to take the place where the coolant should be...i have had the same symptoms four time so far and everytime i replace the headgasket they go away till it blows again

 

So... how hard is it to do a headgasket and studs...?

 

you might as well fire ring it when the head is off

 

And who would I get to do a fire ringing? Im not sure we have any shops around here that would do that.

 

any machine shop could do it....its in your best intrest if ya want your truck to stay together
