Default Cummins 6.7L FTP-75 drive cycle test results

We have completed the official tailpipe emissions testing for the Cummins 6.7L engine.

Attached you will find two documents, both in PDF format. The " Cummins 6.7L FTP ECU Ori-Mod" are a scan of the official test certifications that have been released to us.

For the moment being, they are only in German. We will however get a certified translation of them into English done ASAP.

How to read them? Each test comprises two pages. The first page is the test summary and in the second page are the technical details about the whole test procedure. On the left side towards the bottom of the first page of each you'll see : "Bemerkung: FTP-75 ECU original" or "Bemerkung: FTP-75 ECU modifiziert. So that you can tell the two tests apart, the first one means Notice: FTP-75 with the stock software in the ECU and the second one means Notice: FTP-75 with the modified software in the ECU.

The "Cummins 6.7L FTP-75 Emissions test results" is a document that we've written trying to condense the official papers into something that's easier to read for anyone not deeply involved in emissions testing. We also converted the results of the above mentioned tests into "US units" to make it easier for you guys in the United States to understand the meaning of the numbers.

More information regarding the test criteria:

These tests have been conducted at the university in Biel ( Switzerland ) in their exhaust emissions department. This is their homepage: Homepage | Bern University of Applied Sciences

The official test results have been verified, validated and signed by Dipl.Ing.Dr.techn. Jan Czerwinski at AFHB, Univ.Appl.Sc.Biel, CH . He's been awarded with the honor membership to the Society of Automotive Engineers ( SAE ) . That should be more than enough to be considered a credible certifying body.

At this point we'd like to add considerations that are backed up by the hard numbers from the emissions testing we conducted.

In today's market there appears to be a common thought that the Cummins 6.7L trucks can not be modified without first deleting the emission equipment.

Who wants' people to think this, is a different story, we don't want to dig into right now...

There is nothing further from reality than having to delete the emissions equipment, in order to raise the power in these trucks. With a software that's tuned right, it IS possible to do so!

-Common thought is that a performance software will plug the DPF, thus requiring more frequent regenerations. WRONG! The opposite is true!

In fact, if you have a look at the summary you'll notice that the performance oriented software does emit less particulate matter than the original stock software! How could the performance software plug the DPF in that scenario??? When we did the tuning for the performance software, first thing we did was to install an EGT sensor right in front of the DPF. The thought and goals there were to never exceed 1000°F in order to not burn out the DPF, but at the same time keep the temperature always as close as possible to 600°F. In fact, the DPF starts to burn off the soot above 550°F. The result of the tuning, well you can see it in the tests we conducted.

-Common thought is that deleting the emissions equipment is what gains mileage. Again WRONG!

From the emissions test results it is clearly visible that the modified software gains 4.15 miles to the gallon compared to the original software! Or yet in other words, the mileage gains that people claim to see with the emissions equipment removed, do come in reality from the performance software!!!

Here are charts of interest. Thank you!
