Default Gears

I have searched most of the DB site vendors and have found little in the way of ring and pinion. Yup, I'd like details/costs on front and rear 4.10/4.11s.

One online shop (non-DB vendor) had vague at best information about the front axle. Is the 2003 F250 a Dana 60, a Dana 50, a hybrid (50 center/60 outers)? How do you ID it? The Dana 60 under my GMC has "D60" cast into the webbing, but not on my SD.

About all I know for certain is that the rear is a 10.5" (found that out when I bought my True Trac). On the off chance I find a totalled dually (commoly equipped with 4.10s), can I scavenge the front r&p? I am aware that some duallies used a Dana 70 out back.

Anyone have any inputs?

I was quoted about $3k but that included TrueTracs front and rear.

For your 2003 F250 it was most likely a D50 up front with the 10.5" rear.

You will have better luck with 4.10s in a gas powered truck VS a DRW. DRWs were not commonly loaded with 4.10s.

$3k is insane. I just regeared a set of d44's for under a grand. If your looking for good prices on gears go to pirate 4x4 .com and look for wayne hartwig. He is a vendor on that site and can get just about anything your gonna need. Oh and out the $1k it included master rebuild kits, u joints, yukon gears a locker up front ("luch box style") with a new carrier, and a spool for the rear axle.

Considering a True trac for the rear is about $650, I'd have to say that $3000 for gears, True Tracs and labor isn't that outrageous. I got raped almost $300 6 years ago just to install a True Trac.

So no hard, definite answers as to what is in the front. That's cool, I am getting the feeling that not too many guys worry about gearing with all of this torque on hand. I'll swing into the local Ford dealership and see what I can find out in the service department.
