You can try yeah. I plan on trying this myself as well, I have a spare intake manifold sitting here.
He machines off the coolant passage and welds a plate over it, and also welds the bottom where the egr cooler feeds in. He also hot-tanks the inside and I think he will powdercoat any color you want. That is the stage 2 intake.
The stage 1 has a LOT more work done, the tops of the runners are machined off, the inside is machined for optimum flow, new covers are made and bolted to the top of the runners and it flows a whole heck of a lot more air. Doug has numbers posted on PSN and I would guess his own site as to the improvement of airflow.

I'm going to try to get one when they get back from TS. This is from their web site
The stock manifold would flow 159 CFM to the rear most cylinder on the driver's side (Cylinder 8). Cylinder number 6 right in front of it would flow 170CFM. It was pulling air through the manifold at 28" of water. After cutting the tops off, machining the floors and adding the taper to the ports. Cylinder number 8 now flows 247CFM. And cylinder 6 now flows 244. This is a 55% increase of available air to the rear cylinder.
This is a performance modification. Deletion of the EGR system will require custom tuning to eliminate the possibility of a check engine light. The valve can still be installed in the manifold if it is needed to pass a visual inspection. A core charge of 200 dollars can be avoided if you send your manifold to be modified. The oil cooler fitting from your engine is needed to be modified to accept the AN hose fitting adapter. A core charge of 65 dollars applies to the cooler fitting.
