Best gauges for 6.0?
#11
I've also heard the factory gauge for the temp on the trans is off by about 20-30 degrees.
To each his own, they are nice and easy to install as well as remove that way, but I just like knowing my stand-alone gauges aren't lying to me.
If I was going that route, I'd just get the SCT livewire, or the touchscreen setup, since that's who I'd be using for tunes anyways.

Good to know about the temps being the same. It's only something I had heard on the boards. Each truck could be different though so who knows.

Why can't you? I have datalogged oil temp and coolant temp with my X-cal2 using the livelink software from SCT. It's just reading off the OBD port like the livewire would. Hmmm.

I have an SCT X3 and EGR delete on the way. Gauges I am considering are pyro, Oil temp, and Fuel pressure. Should I be looking at something else? Shold any of these be swapped for something else? If not, what temp should the oil typically be? Gauges I have found max out at either 280 or 340, not sure which one to get. I got a lot of work ahead but I'm damn near too excited to sleep at night.
Thanks, Tyler

Probably because they cost more, and offer less power. Banks has some really really nice drag trucks, however you can't buy any of the parts on those trucks. They're overpriced and good at marketing.
You know exactly how they do it? It's clear their magazine ads are working on you. Why don't you run your truck on the dyno, or at the local track and let me know how you make out. An SCT equipped truck will hand you your a$$ every day of the week. What "science" do they use? I'm not saying they don't know what they're doing, they definitely do, they're great at selling a lesser product for more money to people who just don't know better.
Call them up and ask them if their IQ will actually tune the transmission on a 5R110. If they tell you yes, they're lying.
If you saw some of the posts from Gale Banks or JBarker over on CompD you'd probably never buy anything from them again. Never seen such arrogance in my life.
It still plugs into the OBD port, so it's still just a "piggyback" on the stock software, you're not really tuning anything with it.
What'd that setup cost you again? Have you made any dyno runs? Have you run it at the track? I made 466/772 on a superflow dyno running a $485 programmer with custom tuning from Innovative Diesel. Also cut a 14.25 1/4 mile using an Escort dash mount GPS device (very accurate) running 34" super swampers, and a loaded toolbox in the back.
Now I realize you can't please everyone with just one item, and some guys will be just fine with the Banks stuff, but don't push it on people who are going for the best, because it's not.

I understand wanting to make a dollar go as far as you can, but nothing wrong with offering guys options for those of us who save longer to get quality we can count on. Yeah, the advertising is good, again backed by comparisons with the other guys stuff, don't see that in many other ads. Just sayin'...

Wow, such hostility. I guess if you want to max out your truck and blow smoke then go with whatever. I am trying to take care of my truck and invest money into it to make sure I can use it to tow my 5er when and where I need it. If all you want to do is go really fast get a little rice burner, it's cheaper. Last time I checked these are heavy trucks for doing work. By the way, do any of the companies that you promote back up their products against the manufacturers and warranty issues? Banks does, and has a staff to ensure that customers can use their products with the assurance that they are not violating the factory warranty. What kind of mpgs do you get with that zippy system? I get 18-21 on the highway going 75-80, and 15-17 in town.

The hostility started with Gale Banks bashing members of a forum. It's just poor business practice.
FWIW, my extreme race, which is my hottest tune, barely has a haze at WOT, almost not even noticeable. Not bad for a 420RWHP daily driver tune. I'm trying to take care of my truck and make it last as well, I too tow a camper. Your tuner does NOTHING for your trans, so how does that take care of anything on a truck that tows? Mine does.
Driving a rice burner is NOT cheaper. Maybe the monthly payment would be lower, but currently I get over 100 miles per gallon of diesel used. Running just #2, I get about 15, and I do NOT believe your 21mpg story. If you do, good for you, but the typical mileage for a 6.0 is 13-17 depending on mods/tire sizes. It is rare for a 6.0 to get near 20. It doesn't matter to me though. Either way, it's not really the tuner in this case, usually the mileage is dependent of what flash Ford currently has installed on your truck. A lot of the older flashes got near 20mpg, but they also ate injectors and FICM's.
You actually think if something happens to your motor Banks is going to step up and foot your bill when the Ford dealer denies warranty? Do you find it hard to breathe with your head buried in the sand that far? You ARE violating your factory warranty with that Banks. Read your owners manual for your truck. ANY modification found to cause issues can and will void your warranty. Do you bring your truck into the dealer for service with the Banks still hooked up? If you do, you have a cool dealer, but most are not like that.
You're absolutely right, there are options out there and one thing will not satisfy every person, I agree, but when you say things like "backed by comparisons" you're just regurgitating the same BS they fed you. WHAT COMPARISONS? WHERE ARE THE RESULTS? What is it you're comparing? It's not power, they lose there, it's not price, they also lose there, it's certainly not safety, unless you consider just running a lot less power the "safe" approach. I prefer my SCT because I know it is custom tailored to my EXACT truck, and it actually accesses the TCM so it can tune the transmission to work with each tune, where as the banks does what? Might raise line pressure, but that's about it...
If you'd like to try and break it down and explain why the Banks is better than a custom tuned SCT, then by all means lay the facts on us. The IQ itself is a decent unit, running outdated software, but the features seem pretty nice. But if I want that I'll go buy an Ipod Touch or a labtop, I bough a TUNER for my truck though.
Stick around the forums long enough and you'll start to see the light. Check the for sale sections, you'll find a lot of Banks/Bullydog/Edge products there from people seeing the light too.
