Default What Mods?

hey, im almost 16 and just bought my first truck. It is a 91 cummins 250 regular cab long bed. It has 226xxx miles and a few mods. First it has the trans rebuilt last spring and the injection pump turned up(not sure how nuch), a 3 in body lift and 33s. i dont want to make more than 300 hp but would like for it roal a lot of coal and still get 24 mpg( 3:08 gears). it does have boost and pyro guages. What mods do you guys suggest?

I suggest selling it if rolling coal is your #1 priority.

Gotta jump in too, sell it and buy a honda civic. rice rocket around in that. don't ruin a good truck and make the rest of us look bad. and the coal you speak of is un burnt fuel. so the more "COAL" the more $3.80 diesel fuel you use....

I'm sorry but i think you all "enthusiasts" and diesel freaks(in a good way) need to be more supportive to this young fellow. Sounds like he wants to get involved in the diesel world but sounds as if u all are but hurt over a few words. Anyway, do some research on the pump tuning, buy a straight pipe exhaust, find a full intake some ware, or build one. That's what i did. Then look into a set of 50-75 hp injectors, and throw a 16cm housing on it and will prob. be around 250+ est. I have a 93 2wd with 368xxx miles with exhaust, intake and pump tuning and it is pretty strong for a old near stock truck and it does get about 21 mpg still at that mileage. My brother in law had a 92 with those mods that i suggested and it was strong. hope this helps a little. oh and look for a set of clean injectors. or even maybe 370 marine. and that other guy is correct with clean smoke, ya don't want alot of black smoke.

I feel ya bud not long ago I didn't know anything about diesel tuning and what not. Just hadda ask over time and learn from people. Nobody is bashing you on here just letting you know that (rolling coal) isn't a good thing, Your wasting diesel, pissing off anybody driving behind you with there window down, and all the rednecks with big jacked up diesels and the fuel turned all the way up with a 6 inch exhaust and a 15 inch (5 gallon bucket) tip rolling out smoke all over the place is also pissing off the enviroment people. And giving anyone with a diesel a bad name.

Get ya a cold air intake (buy or build)
Swap out the exhaust or compressor housing on the turbo
maybe an exhaust manifold
straight pipe it to a 4 inch or 5 just dont slap a 15 inch tip on it
turn your pump up just a lil
and keep your filters changed and run lucos and you'll get good mpg and power
I did that to my 91.5 and it was sittin at 270hp and I got 24 mpg if i kept my foot out of it

if you want more slap a fuel pin in and bigger injectors
and maybe an air dog i did that too and it helped ALOT!

Thanks to you last three guys, but right now the way my truck sits i get 24+ mpg. NO JOKE. and i dont care about the people behind me, they can pass if they want. As for environmentalists, they can get the heck out of my way because they are gettin smoked regardless. i dont mean to sound rude but tree huggen liberals are my pet peave. thanks for the advice. And diesel is only 3.35 a gallon by me so i dont mind. I understand the clean smoke thing but dont really care.

Oh, and im not a grasshopper, i know my fair share for a sixteen yearold.

P.S. 91.5 its intercooled

To be 16 again full of **** and vinegar thinking i know it all... the older i get the less i know...
Any way start with a bhaf intake, asa modifieds or dnr customs intake. Or cut up the stock box then open up the exhaust diamond eye sells a nice kit. then look up in the stickie how to turn up the pump. A 366 gov spring will make it like a different truck. Next a fuel pin denny t or m&c inc. A m&h dynamic timing spacer is a good idea to. Cooler Tubz to help with egt and a hx35 or he351cw turbo. And ic trucks have tiny injectors some 5x12s would do it good and with the extra fuel you need to upgrade the liftpump either fass airdog or a low pressure piston lift pump. Thatll get you a decent truck
