NV5600 Swap
What all to i need to swap a NV5600 into my 91? I know you have to have a different adapter plate, starter, slave cylinder, and obviosly the trans. But what else special is there to do? Do they make an adapter to bolt the 205 tc up to it? Any modifications to the cross member? And how much are they worth so i dont get screwed? Thanks!
When I looked into this I was told a np205 that's from a getrag truck will bolt directly to a nv5600. I know there is two different nv5600's also , different input shaft sizes, not sure if output shafts were also different. Try the search , it's gOtta be on here somewhere
The NP205 will bolt right up using the 91's stock 29 spline coupler (Getrag/NP205) but you'll have to either machine it to slip into the rear seal of the NV5600 or pull the seal out of the back of the 5600 and make the coupling "wet" between the trans and t-case.
I had mine machined for $30 and also sealed the splines with RTV as I don't want expensive synchromesh being contaminated by 80-90 or leaking out the flange connecting 5600 to 205.
Let me look in my notes to see what machining is necessary.

I had it turned to an O.D. of 1.940 for a length of .80 from the end and also put a new snap ring in the middle of the coupler to keep it centered on both spines as the stock one was MIA.

Bolts right up with the stock NP205. Here's the best pic I have of mine assembled. Only thing I did was the machining of the stock coupler then bolted the two together. Driveshafts do have to be shortened (rear) and lengthened (front).
Ya im pretty sure you have to cut a new hole in the floor for the stick, but idk where cuz i havent done this swap yet but i would like to myself. I think they are worth about $4000 new and probly $2500-$3500 used/rebuilt. You could always browse the junkyard and maybe pick one up for close to nothing, thats what i plan on doing.
