Default Sled pulling

So I'm going to pull my truck for the first time in a small county fair. Entering it as a street legal, no sanction. Looking for some pointers. I figured 4 high and stay in 2nd gear. It's the truck in my sig. I'm goin to do some tweaking before hand. Boosted launch? Gradual start? All insight is welcomed :-) a friend wanted to put a $100 wager his 2nd gen would out pull mine.

With 6" of lift how big are your tires and what gear ratio do you have? But 4low for sure! No boosted launch, you have a stock turbo it will light with just the weight of the sled behind you. Can you run traction bars and bump stops in this class? With 6" you either have re-arched springs or blocks in the back and the axle will want to wrap even worse.

Stay on the low side of the t-case. I would try 3rd gear first. I don't think you will have the power to pull 4th. Bump stops and traction bars if possible, Also move the hitch forward as far as possible. I put the rear bolts of the hitch in the front holes on the frame. Just make sure the opening for the hook is behind the rear most part of the truck, get it close as possible though. And if your friend has much done to his 2nd gen I would not take that bet.

it takes a good puller to pull 4th gear. it also depends on what kind of a sled it is. speed sleds are a little easier.

gear selection depends on track but i dont think that set up will take 2nd gear high range. I would say 3 low at the very most. I would go easy on it if you have a single disc clutch.

He has an auto. Im assuming he meant put the selector in second and stab it... Put that sob in drive... it's an 89 so you have the 3spd non lockup converter. I hope you don't have the 3.07 gears but being a 4x4 it should have 3.55's at least. But yea I wouldn't take the bet...

Yeah, torque flight 727. Goerend converter, sonax billet servos, amsoil trans fluid, mag Hytec double deep trans pan with an auxiliary filter/ cooler with electric fan. Truck has an ATS exhaust manifold, S300 turbo, 4" intake with BHAF. 3" cross over tube. Pump will be all but 1/2 turn from max. M2, maybe M3 fuel pin (can't remember) smoke screw flush. M&H dynamic timing kit. Air dog 150, 4" exhaust to 6" stacks. DDP 50
Horse injectors. 6" of lift, going to build a mount for tractor weights to hang off the bumper. I can weigh up to 8000#'s. Also going to weld my differential up, the truck was an old farm truck and they burnt the limited slip out of it. My buddy's 2nd gen really just has his pump tweaked and advanced 1/2 inch on the damper with a boost elbow. It's a 96 I think. 180 pump? I know it's not the 215 And his trans was just rebuilt and "built" I took a ride in it and I wasn't too impressed. I'm going to do a 3k GSK for him before the pull. But sorry for being so vague, I really should update my sig... Trac bars are allowed, I have a week before the pulls. Idk if I'd get the track bars done in time or not

Trans also has a TF-2 shift kit in it. Running 20x12 rims 305/55/r20's Nitto terra grappler a/t's pretty much 100% tread. Front end is much stronger than stock, upgraded steering, bracing. 4340 chromo axle shafts. NP 205 transfer case. I think that's all... I've probably got 13k in the truck... Oh, the S300 has a banks big head waste gate, as the truck is modded now I've seen 35 psi of boost. I have a turbo blanket and adjustable boost elbow on it's way to my door step. I wanted to see atleast 45 psi just didn't know if that was out of the S300's efficiency.

4low drive your gonna need about 2k lbs to make 8000 hitch as high as you can and still get away with it bars and stow will def be your friends! Stops for sure even if you use wood how hard is it to light the turbo? Might wanna get alil boost goin b4 u leave the line 5-10 basically let it go when it pulls itself through the brakes. That lift is your biggest downfall with driveline angles and more wrap in the suspension.
