See the contact area in the center of this flex plate comparison... The center area on the converter makes contact there.

If you ask your converter guy to just turn the differance down on the converter it will all bolt up just fine. In most cases a converter builder will do this for FREE!!.

BC847 has a great picture showing the difference in thickness stock to SFI..
