im nearly certain that there is no difference in the external parts of a 60 and 61. im also rather certain that there is no ratio that fast available for a true 60 carrier.
as for the -an stuff, i think the -an number is the tube size in sixteenths of an inch. so -8an would be like half inch tube size which should work very well. the inside of the 1/4 inch pipe fittings is prob right around 3/8 inch.

good deal, glad i did ok with the -an fittings. never messed with them before. i believe stock lines are 1/2 in or pretty close to it. also thanks for the insight with the gearing. next time i'm home i'll look real close at the axle to see if there are any markings to better identify the axle. the gearing isnt crutial as of right now, i just figured it'd be nice to throw a slower gear set to maintain some umph and speed consistency with vary driving conditions. as of today two boxes have showed up at the house which i believe is the adaptor plate and flex plate, the cooler and stuff from summit should be showing up tomorrow and the auxilary filter a day or two after that. in about 4 weeks (2 pay checks) i'll be calling dave goerend and figuring out a trans configuration... i know i want it to lock from 2nd gear up and i'll wire in a 3 way switch eventually, auto, manual, and the middle neutral where it does it on its own. but i know with locked shifts a billet input is needed, i was going to throw a billet intermediate in there too, and leave the output stock (i've heard guys leaving them to be the "weak link" so they dont tear anything else up.) but i also know the realistic cieling for the VE is 500 hp so idk if that's enough to toast an intermediate shaft or not. i figure i'll be shelling out a little over 4K shortly

just for the record, i doubt i'll ever hit 500... i just want to have a trans that'll do the trick if i do make 500 one day

Glad I could help. If you have any other questions we are a phone call away. As for the gearing issue, I know my 93 had 3.55 gears as an auto. Now, the 90 that we are building a drag truck out of originally had a 5 speed and has 4.10 gears in it. So, as far as I am aware of, the only 1st gen gear ratio that is hard to come by is the 3.08 ratio.

just throwin a question out there, i know first gen to 2nd gen starter bolt patterns are different... what about the 2nd to 3rd gens? just trying to figure out if i can get an aftermarket 2nd gen or if i have to go with the 3rd gen to match the adaptor plate?
