Trying To Figure Out The Mod Path For My Dodge

A before-turbo intake and after-turbo exhaust are the easiest things to do to lower EGT's, but they won't give you much power by themselves until you turn up the fuel and start seeing more turbo pressure. You need a pyrometer to watch the EGT's.
The pump can be turned up for free by tweaking (or removing) the AFC, buying or modifying the existing fuel cone ($120), and turning the fuel screw (the most important thing). The timing can be advanced for free.
Injectors and turbos are necessary after the first 100 HP, as is a lift pump and torque converter.
The torque converters you should be looking at aren't going to have disks in them because they're not lock-up. That means they're cheaper than the ones all the other Dodge guys have to buy.
Injectors and turbochargers to buy depend on how much money you are willing to spend and what your end goals are.
After you get injectors and a turbo (or two), you're getting to the point where it's good to have porting and valve train modifications done.

Ok... noob question here...
How much bigger is the BHAF compared to a stock filter?
Also, what is a good shift kit? All I want to do is a shift kit as of right now. I don't really want to throw a bunch of money at this truck just yet.
I'm liking this truck so far... got 17 mpg mixed driving tonight. My old 1/2 ton 318 dodge would get 11-12 doing the same driving.

Thanks for responding. I didn't have it on the list, but I want to do a compressor upgrade eventually too. I like that the stuff just bolts up and no fab work is required.

The deal is that a compressor upgrade together with an exhaust housing is going to run what a ready-to-rock HX35 is, if not more, for the same level performance. And the HX35 starts to get inadequate after big injectors.
Depending on your goals, you'd probably be happier with a HY35 or HX40, or one of the several billion S300 variants out there.
The sweet range for a HX35 would be with about 350 HP worth of fuel.
