Default 05 Straight Pipe With Or Without Cat????

hey yall. i got a friend staying with me from AZ he wants to do exhaust real bad but money is tight for him. is there a sound difference between straight with or without the cat?.....there is a 3rd gen that passes my house that is 100% straight piped and it sounds like crap.(sorry to those of you that are 100% straight piped i just do not like it.) he wants the truck to have a deeper sound but not a loud crackley sound...

I straight piped mine and thought the sound was crappy as well.
leave the cat and it wont be bad.

or cut the cat and get an aero 4040

I have sound clips if wanted

I just took my muffler off and left the cat on at first, but I didn't notice a whole lot of a difference. So I went ahead and put a piece of 4" pipe where my cat used to be, let me tell you the cat holds a lot of sound. I would loose your cat and get some type of high flow muffler and I think that will give you the sound you want.

I find the cat holds a lot of the sound most people are looking to get out of there diesel if you go 5" with 7 or 8" tip without cat it will sound good.

Mine's straight-piped all the way through, but I didn't buy any aftermarket system. At first, I tried the MBRP muffler, but it sounded terrible, so, took that out and just ran it straight all the way to the back, and I loved it! It was like a high-pitched choppy sound.
But, not long ago, I had the 2nd Gen. Swap Kit installed and so now it sounds different and I still love it. It has a slightly, deeper sound but it sounds more quite at idle.

Have the aero 4040 just ahead of the rear axle, 4", no cat and the truck sounds sinister. Not too loud in normal driving, but wicked deafening, deep roar when I get on it.

It does drone a bit tho, loaded at cruise.
