Default ford lockouts?

me and a guy at an offroad store down here have an idea where if you took the lockout hubs off a ford could you retrofit them to put them on an 03 dodge. Instead of the hub being held on by bolts the fords have studs but the bolt pattern there is the same. I was just going to put bolts there and take the studs out. We could use ford stub shaft and eliminate the u-joints in the axle 2. i'd have to redrill and tap holes for my dodge wheels to fit on the ford hubs but that's no problem. I think it'd work great instead of buying the spendy dynatrac kit. I was going to also install the warn lockouts into the ford hubs. i was wondering if ya'll think this would work or not. ik i'll have to mill my wheels out 2. it seems like it'd save alot of wear and tear on my front end this way though.

Well your changing an engineered component. My opinion is that the subtle differences in the ford and dodge front end could allow for component failure. The dynatrac was engineered for the truck, not for the ford suspension. I wouldn't recommend this in any way shape or form without the ability to know the exact differences between the two hubs, and im not talking what you can see. It's what you can see an measure that concerns me.

Always remember that if someone hasn't already done it there's a reason!

There's been some talk of "greasing" the hubs through the ABS sensor. I dont agree with or think this is a good idea at all but its a thought. Enjoy not having a properly working ABS system if you do

I've heard that there are some "problem solver" hubs in design at this point but I dont know the time line.
It's very possible your idea could work but in the same respect it may not.
Simple changes in castings, material compositions, bolt hole thickness, weight carrying capabilities can all cause catastrophic failures, So as you can see that's why as a shop owner i think its a bad idea...it's called "liability"

Everything is a bad idea and bs to you lately isn't it? Maybe you should leave your vehicle stock.

I know you can use redrilled Ford Dana 60 spindles and outer axle shafts on the 2nd Gen Dana 60s. There is a thread on Pirate 4x4 and several people have done it. Up until Dodge redesigned the balljoints on the 2nd gens(2000?) The Ford and Dodge used the same ball joints. You can swap the entire Ford outer knuckle to the Dodge axle. Your still left with a 30 spline inner though. Unless you swap to an ARB. I know the 35 spline for the Ford Dana 60 and the 35 spline locker for the Dodge Dana sixty both have the same part number. I am halfway confident that a standard rotation Ford or Chevy Dana 60 carrier would fit in the Dodge D60 but I don't know that for sure.

But as for the AAMs? Your kind of on your own I think. I haven't heard of anyone swapping parts on them.

PS Regardless of my smarta$$ first reply, (in reply to the first line) your second paragraph is very interesting. Are the Tie rod tapers the same on the two knuckles? Never been a member of pirate.

I hope not. I really hope not. I was crawled in the corner with a blankie over my head saying "oh the horror!"

Glad we got THAT out of the way.

And quit posting so damn fast! I can't keep up! Some of us are slower than others!

And I'm not sure about the tie rod taper I will have to look at the thread again. I know there was some questions about getting the front antilock brakes to work. Not sure how that turned out either. Most of the swaps were done on off road rigs and they could care less about anti lock.
