Default Modding smarter...

I want to make a plan of attack for my truck. There is no way that I can do everything all at once, so I want to make a list and take care of them in order of importance. The goal for my truck is to be a fun daily driver, tow rig for my Cruiser (trailer & rig = 10k lbs) and an expedition/camping rig when I don't need to drag out the Cruiser (possibly a light weight camper?). I'm not looking for big numbers, I just want it to work well and pull like a frieght train . You can see my current set-up in my signature, so I won't repeat myself. I would like more low-end power and better fuel mileage when it is all said and done... Smoke and the ability to put lesser cars in there place while daily driving would be an added bonus.

This is my list so far:
  • EGT, Boost, Trans Temp gauges
  • Digital Fuel PSI (both rail & in line)
  • Smarty (Which one?!?)
  • Intake system w/ dry filter (Which one?)
  • Injectors (50 - 60 hp)
  • FASS / AirDog II
  • 5" turbo back, straight pipe exhaust
  • Intake horn
  • Intercooler

What I'm asking is for you guru's to change/modify the list to better suit my needs and place them in order of importance. I'm on a very limited budget, so I don't want to buy something I don't need or buy the wrong one... Thank you so much for your help!

Smarty POD
good choices for gauges
Air Intake, AEM/AFE/S&B are my top choices, not necessarily in that order
Personally I'd stick with a 4" exhaust if you plan on staying with the stock turbo, 5" is un-necessary
AIR DOG for the fuel system(personal choice, I like the AD better) no need for injectors in my opinion, 50hp would be more than enough though, if you get them I'd go with a turbo too, like a HTB2 62/65/12 by HTT, or an Aurora 3000k great low end response and towing performance will be greatly improved, water/meth is kinda up to you i think, with those upgrades your egts shouldn't be extreme anyway, it's up to you though, mileage should go up, head studs are just a good idea in general, necessary, i don't think so for the setup you want, good idea yeah, talked with a guy from premier performance out of rexburg idaho and he says 5" isn't necessary until 800+ hp and I saw a duramax lay down 1204 hp on a dyno with 4" exhaust so i believe it is up to you, also on the common rail i'd highly recommend an aftermarket exhaust manifold

Okay, I have another questions: What is the difference between the Smarty POD, Smarty Revo and Smarty TNT?

Smarty POD is power on demand. You can adjust the power on the fly. The Revo and TNT are the actual programs.

So those are programs included in every Smarty or are they options? Sorry for the dumb questions...

Here I am thinking that I made a decision and I go and second guess it again... This is taken from another thread on here:

The Attitude monitor replaces gauges and the need to watch them. Simply use the default settings or input your desired max levels for EGT's, Boost, Trans/Converter/Clutch Slippage, Engine Temp or whatever (it monitors a dozen different parameters all at once and can display up to 8 at a time with the CTS monitor) and if anything gets "into the red", the Attitude automatically de-fuels the engine to keep all the parts happy.

Though the stock trans and turbo won't like you, for and extra 100 bucks, you can spring for the "HOT" unlock which adds a "level 6" that brings 150hp and 350lb-ft at he wheels to the table.

Because of this, I keep going back to an Edge as well. I really like the features that the Edge has but I also like the tuning you can do with a Smarty. It seems like the Smarty would give you more off idle tq (which is what I'm looking for). Hell, I'm not sure if I would even play with everything the Smarty can do... I'm not the smartest kid in school and I'm not patient enough to tweek and tune. I would much rather just plug it in and forget it!"

I really like the ease of use and the monitoring that the Edge provides but the TQ management of the Smarty sounds like more of what I need... I just don't know!!!

What do you guys think based on my needs/wants and what truck I have? Price wise, it's pretty much a wash...
