as for tuning wise smarty would be better then edge, but edge has all the guages built in and defueling options that the smarty doesnt have, but if you are wanting to put in guages I wouldnt forget about bully dog either, they have more then just the normal versions that people dont know about and they can out perform smartys, just depends ont he truck some like smarty better and some like bully dog better, and most of the guys that have swapped from bully dog to smarty have not tried all the other other larry tunes out there.

What do you mean by "tuning wise"? Is it because you can fine tweek it or because it will give you more power or ???? Again, for my needs, I don't want a drag truck! I just want something that is fun to drive, gets decent mileage and yanks my Cruiser around safely. I'm not looking for numbers, I'm looking for drivablity. From what I can see, the Edge is a better system for me except that I can't tweek tq management (which seems like it would be a big deal for me). However, all of this is coming from reading posts on here!

Also, I am hearing that running the Smarty POD on SW#9 would drain my fuel rail if I don't have fueling modifications. Would the AirDog II take care of that or will the POD be more than I need?

To be on the safe side for fuel I am going with the AD II with Drawstraw V, and the Arson III kit, and another inline filter. Also upgrading the lines as well.

Your rail should not drain with the aforementioned mods.

i would suggest air mods first and foremost. get ya a 4in turbo back exhaust system, and an intake, afe/aem/s&b (as bobcat 67 said previously) then if your going to go with mechanical gauges as formentioned (good idea) then do so. an for programmin go with a bullydog triple dog. there are many "tunes" for the crazy larry upgrade and they can be had for free i know kmk diesel helped me tremendously with mine...(see https://www.dieselbombers.com/genera...og-issues.html).. the bullydog triple dog offers timing advances and a defuel feature which helps to minimize wasted fuel... the smarty is def best as far as tuning goes but for plug an play i would suggest bullydog... if your going to be using your rig primarily for daily driving/towing i dont see injectors as "neccesarry"... especially if you think about lp injection... this will both greatly increase power AND slightly increase fuel economy... (see https://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-c...ne.html)...and without tranny upgrades i wouldnt suggest going much (if any) further.... with cold air intake, exhaust, bullydog programmer, AND lp injection your rig should have PLENTY of power for towing and get very good mpg and be very reliable as well...

Thanks for all of the advice, guys. As of right now, I have an exhaust picked out. My trans is built and ready to run. I'm thinking my next step should be an intake, then an AirDog. From there I will probably start saving up for an Edge w/ Attitude... It just seems like the smarter move for my and what I want to do with the truck. (If I am flawed in my thinking, please let me know!)

i had an 04 i put in an edge juice w attitude because i didnt want to have to mess with programing and deal with pluging and un pluging to change settings. it worked great for me, want to change power settings just hit the arrow up or down. i have an 08 at the moment and i got a smarty and i do like it but it isn not as simple and everytime i plug it in i spend like 10 min with it i dont change setting much anymore i just set it and leave it with the edge i had level 5 turned all the way up it smoked a ton and was quick and then i had level 4 set for daily driving.( i did that after i filled a cops car full of smoke as he was writing someone a ticket...........lets just say he was a little irritated)
