Default turbo question

does any one have any experiance going from a 64/71/14 to a 62/74/14 friend of mine needs a new turbo and we're wondering if that would be a little more street friendly

The compressor is not what's killing you its likely the 74mm exhaust turbine wheel. I'm running a 62/71/13 stainless housing turbo and with the right fuel it spools great. However, just for comparison sake, the HTB2 62/65/12 that I took off spooled better than stock. So, I would think if he went with a 64/71/14 or a 62/71/14 he would likely see a big difference in spooling and better street manners. I assume you are talking about II Silver series turbos. If so, he may want to call them and ask, they might have some upgrade options. If not then I have found the guys at HTT extremely helpful and easy to deal with. I know they will even work on competitors turbos as well. Good luck.

The 62 will definately be more streetable. Won't have the EGT control on the top. The 62 is easier to keep in it's map. It will respond better down low and loaded. I've been through the 66's 64's and the 62's. 66 was awesome for a hot road, alot of smoke until she lit. The 64 worked good all around but wasn't the best for towing, went to the 62 and it was perfect for just about everything but had to watch the egt's when I really cranked things up.
