Default S&B install question?

Just received my S&B dry intake kit today in mail on my birthday!!
1 question I have about the install tomorrow morning. It says in instuction that the bottom box cover is optional. Has everyone installed the bottom piece or have you left it out? In the instructions it says that there is minimal heat worries from it. I guess I'm also going to remove the silencer ring while I'm there. Is there any tricks to getting it out?
Thanks

Don't know about the intake but to get the ring out, a flat head and a pair of needle nose pliers is all I used. There is a edge of the ring that is pointed pry that till you can get the pliers under it then twist in and pull it out is how I did mine.

It is on a 6.7 but it is the same process.

Thanks for the reply. I'll see how it goes in the morning.

Well the install went great. Took 45 minutes. I did not have a small enough flat blade screwdriver for the silencer ring so i left it in there. The intake is not as loud as i thought it would be. I was hoping for mre. The quality of the kit is great though. Everything fit up just right with no problems. I also straightpiped it today too. Now it's sounds awesome. Next up some gauges.

Your trubo whistle will go up ten fold when you remove the silencer ring.

Round 2: It took me all of 3 minutes to get the ring out this time. I guess I was just to hot last time and frustrated . Man it sounds really good now. The turbo screams!
