Over Boost?

Over Boost?
Popped the over boost code on a recent road trip. The boost gauge read 34 psi the second time the code came up. I have S&B cold air intake, S&B intake elbow, and 5 inch turbo back exhaustn (like the signature says). I was wondering if this is common or if a tuner would fix this. Any help would be good.

how is your boost gauge hooked up? is it mechanical (small tube from sender to gauge) or electronic (by sensor and wire only)? What is the code? Can you hear the turbo from the cab? If so did you hear an difference in the sound when it happened? Is this something that just suddenly happened? Sounds like a problem with wastegate solenoid failing on you. No programmer is gonna fix that. You should, however address the issue before you get a programmer. Check the wire connection(s) to the wstegate solenoid, at the bottom of the compressor housing.

It's an electronic boost gauge. I didn't hear anything funny from the turbo. The code was p0234.

Turns out the turbo is a borg warner s330 with a mechanical wastegate.

Ok so after some digging the turbo is an Industrial Injection Thunder S330. I was climbing a 7% grade at almost full throttle to see what it would do. EGT was reading 1000 deg. How do I keep from popping this code?
