i'm thinking that 20 pounds is a little much for the vp44..... can you adjust it down to 15 or so and see if that lets it start better? i've heard of people having to do this before.

there is an internal bypass at 14 psi inside the VP

When FASS first started up they were havin hard starting issues, but the pressures they were running up at the 25psi plus ranges back then.

My bad.... that's good to know.....

is there any way to check and make sure that is working correctly?

It's the banjo bolt coming out of the return flow side of the VP44. I made a simple tester myself out of a couple of nuts and an air fitting. I welded the the nuts together with the air fitting on one end and screw the banjo into the other end. Then apply air pressure and see what PSI the spring opens at.

Mark when you go to start your truck do not let the lift pump run before you turn the key. In other words get in turn key imediately before pump can build any pressure in VP. Hope this helps, if it does start saving for a new VP. It might get you by for awhile.
