Anyone have one. Do they work well? Do they sound like a big rig?

I've got one... But really it does sound kind of like a big rig in the cab... But outside all it does is HISSSS....

But As for function I've managed to extend my stock brake pads to 118K and still have half life left... They work awesome for warming up in the morning with the high idle TSB. I can hit 800-850*F worth of pyro with 3 cylinder idle. It's completely warm in about 3-5 mintues (175*F coolant temp).

I have the Jacobs, my brother Brian has a Jacobs also, my friend has a BD, other friend has a Banks brake, my brother Cody has the Pacbrake. The Pacbrake is the best on the market, holding power is much better than Jacobs & others because Pacbrake uses air compressor where Jacobs & others uses the factory vaccuum pump for operation. I have tripled the life of my brake pads & coming down grades is much easier as I hardly ever use my service brakes while towing.

You are probably thinking of a true Jake style brake retarder.

No one is making anything like that for our trucks. At least that I am aware of. The brakes that we use are going to be exhaust brakes.

They still provide engine braking, but do it completely differently and no they will not give that big rig sound.

That is correct, just sounds like a big copperhead going down the road....HISSSSSSSSSSSSS. A exhaust brake just has a butterfly valve which closes shut when vaccuum or air engages a solenoid which opens/closes the butterfly valve. There is a small hole in the butterfly valve which releases excess backpressure & this makes the hissing sound because air is forced through a 1/4" hole.

Anyone who has a S300 based turbo & wants to use a turbo mount exhaust brake? I have figured out how to mount a 3rd gen brake on my truck with only slight modifications to the actuator of the E-brake & custom downpipe. You will need to order your turbo with a 3rd gen exhaust housing. Pm me for details, pics available.

I did one over on TDR at the time of the install, I'll see if I can find it. Found it, here is the link. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...e-2nd-gen.html

I got some messages from guys saying that they can't access TDR because they aren't members. I'll just type it out.

I ordered my Super Stock 62/71/14 with a 3rd gen turbine housing & 2nd gen compressor housing. I had to cut my 4" downpipe flange which bolted to the factory turbo & weld on a 3rd gen flange. I then had a issue with the actuator on the Exhaust brake making contact with the A/c lines at the firewall. I found a great trick to fix this issue. The butterfly valve inside of the exhaust brake is attached to the shaft using a clevis type pin. I knocked this pin out of the shaft which allowed me to turn the actuator 180* to where it faces downward. I then reinstalled the pin & attached the actuator arm back on to the Exhaust brake butterfly valve. I installed the clamps which hold the exhaust brake in place. I called Advanced Diesel Technology 304-864-3399 & Doug sold me a nitrous activation throttle pedal switch for $40. This allowed me to activate the vacuum solenoid when the accelerator pedal was released. Doug also sold me a Pac brake Vaccuum solenoid $60 & I bought the lines/fittings to install my brake at the local Napa for $20. I also ordered a Jacobs exhaust brake on/off switch which mounts on my gear shifter for $30. The exhaust brake itself was bought on ebay brand new for $300. It is off of a 04.5-06 & is a true 4" exhaust brake, the 03-04 trucks had a 3 1/2" inch exhaust & I wanted a true 4" exhaust. This brought my grand total to $480 with shipping. Not bad for a 4" exhaust brake, Thanks Advanced Diesel Technology!!!!

Got some pics for you too, pics of brake mounted on the truck, Pacbrake vacuum solenoid & shifter switch. I tried to upload them, but the file is too large. I'm a idiot when it comes to computers, if you want them, I can email them & you can paste them.
