Guys, On a VP truck the max power for a smarty is MAYBE 60 RWHP at most.

Anytime bud, As with any box that does not tap the wire power increase is limited. The truck may feel like it makes 140 more but not the case.
It affects timing and other ECM maps which in turn equate to the butt dyno going off the chart. It really tells the factory equipment to fuel harder on the bottom end. Hence the bigger the injectors the more mmmph off the line. In the top end it does nothing but kill your power. I know at some point folks attributed the power loss to the dramatic low end fueling starving the pump for fuel but that theory seems somewhat unlikely once we understand the concept of the VP-44

The smarty is what it is out of the box. You have the VP smarty and the CR smarty. I'm guessing you saw the CR smarty's power ratings. In all honesty the smarty kills VP horsepower.

I think by supporting mods he means like injectors, turbo, etc.

The truck will make "more" with supporting mods, but nothing near what it makes with an actual fueling box. The Smarty for instance on a truck with 150 horse sticks, a 64/14 and other basic mods might make 390 to 400 but with a edge drag comp we'll see that number around 500+

A friend installed a smarty on my truck a few years ago to let me see what it would do. I had the edge comp box and you could only run it on certain levels. Dont know if it made anymore power over the edge but it sure did blow alot of black smoke. Didnt know it at the time but I now have the high idle and I like it. Haven't got to see the 3 cylinder high idle yet though.

Well then Smarty kind of sucks then. But Cummins always said that smarty was the answer for them trucks.
