Your vp shouldnt be causing your tranny to screw up when your truck isnt working properly. That sounds like an ecm problem there. Either way my friend youl figure it out sooner or later. Be sure to keep us posted on what you find out for future reference. Good luck.

Hes right... the vp44 shouldnt make it SLAM into 2nd. Didnt you get the truck from a dude with double stacked tuners? That could have damaged your ecm... Its worth a shot if you have someone with same truck and can borrow their ecm.

2000 WILL NOT work on an 2002, tuning is totally different, if your are going to swap it, you must use a 2002 ecm. however, i highly highly doubt its your ECM causing the issue. This seems to me to be a trans issue. Even stock, the autos arent the best and it seems to me that you are describing the trans slipping and then engaging. that cant be fixed with an ECM swap or reflash. whens the last time you changed your trans fluid? i reccomend changin it and the filter, look for metal shavings in the fluid, my bet is that your trans is on its way out.

took the truck into my friends shop and it threw an injection pump timing code. cant get the timing that the ecm wants it to have. he said if its not getting the timing the ecm ask for it can screw up your shift points. and basically i need a new vp. the guy who owned the truck brfore me said he was pulling a trailer over a pass and it felt like someone hit the brakes so he took it to a shop and they said it was the stock lift pump and it couldnt keep up with the hypertech program,so he replaced the stock lift pump with the fass ddrp. i believe this is where the problem started, starve the vp of fuel= tons of $$

Doesn't the vp's have a kick down caple for the trans?? Not sure what its called but if hes holding it to the carpet wide open then the trans is seeing the truck is wide open so it bumps line pressure up making his tranny bang into second gear hard.

caylebk- You can have autozone or advanced auto check the codes for free. The breaking feeling the previous owner felt was more than likely dead pedal. He probably damaged the pump before the fass was on there!! $1000 lesson... You plan on changing it yourself??

yeah i'm changing it myself with the help of my brother in law at his shop and some blue mountains. we replaced my friends with a hot rod a few weeks ago and from what i see its not all that exciting. the the big fass is going on for sure before i replace the vp and i'm definately adding a fuel pressure guage too. i think i have learned a little lesson here along with thte previous owner.

and it only shifts hard when i see the almost dead pedal. when it drives normal it shifts fine thats why i think my tranny is fine. the truck runs a lot better with the chip turned up. i'll replace the vp asap which will probably be next month so we'll see if it fixes it
