thanks for all the input guys!!!! one guy asked above if i would be pulling anything. the answer is no. at most, a 20' boat on rare occasions. this would just be my suped up fun truck. i just love diesels. im definitely going to go with a 5 speed by the way guys. as i said before, i will spend the money to get this done right the first time around.

would it be more beneficial to do the p7100 conversion? and thanks again fellas

There were some bad injectors in the first runs 4.5-05. The CR injectors are generally speaking, more vulnerable to ULSD and contamination, no doubt. Good filtering and lubing eliminates that problem. Good advice for any diesel, as far as that goes.

I know a few guys with common rails that have bent all 6 rods. I know they can all bend, just seems like the common rail do it more often. and know a guy with an 06 that is on injector set number 3. and he runs a 3 micron fuel filter and all that good stuff.

your better off to just do a complete 12v then you have what you need. the conversion injectors don't seem to work as well as using straight up 12v head and injectors. you will definitely need a dd clutch and upgraded hydraulics then.

That's because like I said, it's easier and cheaper to make more power with them.

As far as fuel related issues go, you will find alot more trucks suffered from VP44 failures than hoofed CR injectors. "Your friend" is obviously doing something wrong. Running a stacked MP8? Pressure relief valve plug nonsense? When did he actually go to the better filter? Lots of information missing in this discussion.

Once again 01, "Argument by Selective Observation" (what you observe on the Interent and your friends) is a fallacy. There are now and always will be more CR trucks on the road than VP44s. They will also be pulling sleds farther and winning more drag races. It's better technology, that's why it was developed.

is that why in the wanted section when people are looking for rods they want a 12v or 24v vp rod? They don't want the cr rod because they are prone to bending and snapping.

I didn't say the vp pump was a great pump, but if you keep fuel to it, they live a long time. you can keep thinking all my friends are made up from the internet that I talk about, but if you pull your head out and listen to what i have to say and wipe the crap out of your eyes, what I talk about is from first hand knowledge of the person with the problem. He went to a fass system to try and help the injector issues. He is only running a smarty nothing else. If it is electronic it will give you problems.

When is the last time you have actually been to a drag race with lots of CR trucks? There might be a handful of them. and the cr doesn't touch the ppump trucks because that ole dinosaur just plain works. There may be some fast cr's out there but they don't seem to hit the track out here very often. I know the 2 that make over 600hp in the area are torn down due to bent rods and failed injectors. They all have problems and need fixes but dollar for dollar a 12v or vp truck will be less for his stated goal for hp. and the 12v will be the best price and make the most hp of the 3.

The stated HP goal is more cost-effective, less time consuming and reliably achieved with a CR.

I have 2 friends with cr's one had his just rebuilt a year ago when the #6 piston melted and the other is in the tear down process for the same reason. The first one put in 12v rods because they are stronger, and thats what the other guy is going to do as well. I see alot more 12v's and 24v's making that kinda power and staying together longer than cr's.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Dual disk clutch= $1500- $2000

Big input shaft= Not sure never priced one.

Compound turbos= premade kit about $3500

Big injectors= around $1000

Big programmer= around $1000

Intake= $300

Exhuast= $300 - $1000

Head work= $1000

Stronger intercooler boots= not sure

Anybody can build something to fail and spend alot of money doing it. That's been proven time and again. It also proves nothing about the validity of one platform's relative merit over another.
