The nice thing about a sump is you know it will never suck air no matter what until you are down to the very last drop of fuel in the tank.

 

I wish Airdog would use the Vulcan draw straw I instead of the air sucking draw straw II. I have them all on my website.

the benefit of the draw straw 1 = no drilling of the tank and the tube goes into the stock location where the return fuel is brought to minimize low fueling + they are less than $50 and have lager tube than stock so it flows better.

 

Benefit #2 of a sump: Can be fabricated for next to nothing from scrap steel if you have any fab skills whatsoever. I have enough scrap sheet metal laying around to make about 50 for free. Easy is not always best. Things generally work much better when properly designed to begin with. The only reason the tank pickup/sending units are designed the way they are is to save manufacturing cost.
