Hey whats the best headlight to use? or hids? or projector? what looks for you?

 

the projector. I have a set on my 95 and they are way better then the hids. my friend has the hids and he says he likes mine better.

im looking into some new eyes as well but not sure which to go. I def think it will help set-off the rest of the truck in terms of looks. I like the way it makes the front look with aftermarket headlights...eBay Motors: Dodge Ram 94-01 LED Halo Black Projector Headlights NEW (item 250367459951 end time Feb-05-09 17:06:47 PST) these are the kind i am looking at. Dont seem to bad. And i have read/heard that the projector ones are about the best you can get for a decent price kinda like what farmboy said... might go with these at some point

 

if you look to get the projector ones. i order them for sporttruckdirect for about 100 dollars cheaper then every one else. But i would wait to order them cause they are on back order right now. they are awsome. i have the black ones. they look sweet. they make other people on the road mad when you get a good set of white lights. i get flashed all the time.

 

Problem is these are not true projectors. Get some real projector bi-zenon housings and you'll know what real light is like. The "projector" e-bay lights are just a small reflector.

The best pattern for an economical light is the good old fashioned sport housings. They have a reflector designed for better vision.

I have answered this on SEVERAL P.M's. Do NOT get the quad "Halo" units that I have. Unless frustration and general P'Oedness is what you are after. The brand ... I can't for the life of me figure out who's they are but a million knock offs are all over the place .. theese are one of them I bet.

O.K Lemmie Back up. First off the lights look great! Light output is awesome. ADJUSTMENT IS GARBAGE. The single projector units use OEM style adjusters. The Quads like mine use 12 set screws. To get at all 12 the battery boxes need to be OUT of the truck .... period. ... Or remove the front bumper.

Secondly they come wired wrong (Low beam and ground are swapped) and you NEED TO UPGRADE your harness with one from a place like suvlights.com. That is regardless of whatever you choose to do.

Projectors have a very define "Cutoff" and to get that perfect cut off line is usually an easy task My Sube was like an aimed laser ... "Soo Niiice" My truck ..... "Nota so mahtch".

Projectors are GREAT for foul weather driving due to its cutoff level (Less "Flood light" style refraction back at you off snow and fog) And the cutoff is define enough that it makes for a nice distinct and easy to customize way for your auxilary lighting to comliment where one leaves off and the other picks up.

Also, FarmBoy, Are your buddy's HID setups the "Conversion" type that uses an Hid tube in the 4007 OEM headlamp? If so this is the wrong way to do it, and just to throw this out there, HID conversion kits are just garbage. True HID lenses in their housings need to be crystal clear, and a reflector used to sharpen and focus the light.

Ever notice a true HID is very crisp and crystal sharp. The "Arc" that is struck when they are on produces a very wide range in color (Just so happens much of it is blue because that range or "Kelvin" temp is preferred) HID lights also produce brighter and more intense light because the entire capsule of gas is used instead of just a small filament in the middle of the bulb. This also means that the light will be distributed more evenly than with a standard bulb.

Now with a larger "bulb" (allbeit smaller in size) for lack of better terms it is throwing lots of light out of every direction. This light hen is scattered about from the OEM headlamp lens that is designed to do just that .... scatter light from a much much smaller light source our friend the fillament type bulb we all know.

HID conversion kits in OEM buckets are bad news ... what is happening is actually reducing useable light by scattering more of it (10X in fact) at a very wide angle (Giving the illusion of a "Stronger" Light output) which makes them "Blinding" to oncoming traffic.

Indeed. That is why I am giving out this info as I sure don't want someone to expect when they end up with for something so trivial and frustrating.

 

I didn't get what you were saying toolman,they do use 12 or they don't?
