Absolutely. HID's use a Blaast Box that uses LOW AMPEARGE and through step up circuitry outputs a HIGH VOLTAGE feed to the "tubes" that hold the gas to create and maintain the arc. The arc is what generates the light output.

So, the question remains - can you get "proper" HIDs for these trucks?

Anyone ever see kits available that include proper housings with the HID bulbs? That would be the way to go, IMO, but Ive never seen them....and I would suspect they would be $600+

Thanks Tim - good stuff.

there are no hous8ings designed to work with HID's that we can just bolt it. the ony way to get proper hid housings it to do a retrofit with hid projectors. basicaly you cut out your housings, add the hid projectors (sourced from ebay or wherever), and reinstall. obviously there is more work than that involved but that's the idea.
HID Retrofit Parts Projectors Ballasts D2S Bulbs has tons of info on retrofits.

That's an awesome looking site, too bad I'm just a redneck from Idaho and don't have a clue.
Guess I'll just have to put a couple of aircraft landing lights on the bumper

Naaah Aircraft landing lights are 115 volt 400 Hz so ther goes that HOWEVER i do know that AUDI A4 Hid units do graft well into the 00+ SPORT headlight buckets. They still utilize the auto leveling system when done right too

I've got the inexpensive bi-xenon HID conversions from fleaBay and I love them. I'll argue all day long that I can see better with these than projectors, sport, silverstars, etc... Do they cause others to flash me occasionally? Yes. Are they dangerous? No (I had my wife pass me in the opposite direction several times while I drove her vehicle). Sorry to those who like them, but they also don't make my headlights look cheesy like the fleaBay projector housings. When turned off, they look stock.

Most people saying these HID conversions don't work are in the business of selling halogens or projector housings, period (one of the loudest nay sayers sells his wares on a website and all he sells is halogens and projector housings). Shoot for a lousy $100 bucks buy a set and try 'em. Go with 4300k color (closest to Lexus or BMW color) which has the highest light output, and I'll bet you won't change them out when done.

The only negative is that mine are bi-xenon which means they have solenoid which moves the bulb higher for high beams. When I turn on my fog lights it causes them to go into high-beam mode. My fix was bypass the factory switch and wire in a fog only toggle, works for me.

I'm in the Baltimore area of MD - anyone ever wants to see my lights, let me know. I'm more than happy to show them off. Best light upgrade I've seen for my own visibility. Of course this is like asking what is better Ford or Dodge...and of course the answer there is "depends on who tells you and what they own" so have your grain of salt with my answer.

i agree completely. sure, it's not as good as a factory designed HId housing, but still 10x better than any kind of halogen bulb. i've been using them for years like i said in stock halogen housings and only once did i have glare problems, but that was because i had japanese headlight assy's in my lexus that aimed up to the left instread of the right becuase obviously in japan they are right hand drive and drive on the opposite side of the road. so really, that wasn't the fault of using hid's in halogen housings...
