take your AFC off the truck and hook up a press regulator to it and set it where it takes 30psi to move the foot full forward then reinstall it on the truck with it around the middle and try that

I think I will try that, I have seen a couple of write-ups on tuning it with regulated air, just never got into it that far yet.

I pulled off the AFC and hooked it up to a nitrogen bottle with a low psi oxygen regulator on it. With the O2 regulator I could adjust pressure with good precision.

It only took just under 15psi for the AFC to travel full forward. This tells me am over fueling and creating too much heat in the lower mid range for towing as heavy as I do.

The puzzling part is the lack of smoke the truck produced like this. I think I will mess with the washer and grind the "foot" flat while I am in it. I don't need it now but down the road the extra travel may help something.

Its got a 4" turbo back, no cat, with a 4" muffler/6" tip.

During the winter we used to get paid to drive rigs off Wolf Creek Pass for people that couldn't do it. Those are some real mountains.

Well, I did the washer thing and ground the foot flat and took a little off the barrel on the AFC, set the smoke screw so it just touches the shaft. I set up the spring so I get full travel with about 25-27psi of boost. I re-installed on the truck and moved it back a little. Took it around the neighborhood up and down some hills. The turbo lights up better but I still have too much heat to use more than about 1/2 throttle.

Cranked the star wheel tighter to about mid way looking through the hole and took it for another drive. The turbo was nice and responsive but still could hit 1250 EGT with little effort.

Cranked the star wheel several turns more and closed the hood for another day. I may have to put a stronger spring in it to get it to calm down. to be continued........

Just ordered a #10 fuel plate. I believe the #100 plate is too much for towing. I should get it next week.

To be continued
