oring or fire ring
I bought a 98 2500 4x4 with a 5 speed trans. It has 75 hp injectors and was told that it has been fire ringed the prior owner had only put 300 miles on the engine afer having it all went throug now after about 1000 miles on this engine it blew the head gasket. What I found was that the stock gasket was used when the engine builder milled groves in the block and used .041" wire. What I need to know is if I need to call shied and get a special gasket made or was it just that they failed to re torq the head studs? What I have been told is that I do need a special gasket and that the crush ring on the gasket should not overlap the wire. Please I need good info from people that have done this and/or had this done and completely understand all the procedures. Thanks

Fire-rings can be real pain and most daily drivers are better suited for o-rings. But yes, call scheid and get the gasket they use and perform multiple retorques ...in other words 6+ retorques.
