Default timing wont stay

just put a new p7100 pump on my 97 12v the timing gear keeps sliping on the pump shaft after it runs for 15min or so

make sure your torquing to spec and clean the shaft off with electrical parts cleaner. as well as the inside of the gear, any grease/oil will make it slip.

clean the shaft and the tapered part of the gear the shaft seats in with brake parts cleaner, make sure there is NO residue left on there, do not wipe the shaft off with a rag as any fuzz or fibers will make the shaft not seat correctly.

also torque the nut down to 122 ftlbs. i always do 135 after just to make sure.

i do 90ish lbs then another 90*

the torque spec for that nut is 144ft/lbs, I go to 155 ft/lbs just to be sure.

here is another vote for electrical contact cleaner it cleans great and leaves nothing behind

thanks for the clarification, i found that spec on a p-7100 install PDF i had.
