So the project has officially started! It sounds like some really good tuning is all I need. I got the pump off and one of the 12v gurus in New Mexico is going to be taking it from me tomorrow after work. Friday morning, I will be ordering the injectors. I'm going to wait on the turbo since I don't know what I really want. I was thinking a 62/s475 but what if I wanna go for more? I guess I have some time to think that over.

Would it be to my benifit to put new pistons in? Pushrods?

Sounds good Rick good luck with the build. Do you think you will have it done by Mar 20th for Albq?

I don't think the entire build will be done by then. I'm going to shoot for the beginning of May that way I can put up some good numbers at our dyno day at Flash. I'm hoping to have the pump back by then but the guy who is taking it, likes to take his time, but down here he is well known for his work. Regardless if its completely built or not, I'm still going to run it and have fun.

As for pictures, I'll start taking some, although theirs nothing to see right now except for the pump missing.

if your putting a cam in it, i would upgrade the push rods and put 110# valve springs in it

I think I'm going to skip on the cam right now especially if its not needed for me to hit those numbers.

But once this is complete and project 900hp starts, then I'll do the cam, rods, new valve spring holders, etc...

Hmmm....
Works slow, takes his time and is well known for his work...Sounds like Joe D.

I have to smile every time I see a thread like this pop up.
You will see every little gimmick get posted that you really do not need(ie-dual fed pump, better pushrods, blah blah blah) and yet the most important part gets over looked........Time.

600-700 is realitively easy, yet still a tough hill to get on top of,without having the patience and time to tune the truck to run the number.A good stout pump and a strong supply system for it,5x.013's and a 62/71 over a HX60 netted one of my club guys over 600 and that motor has nothing more than a o-ringed head and studs.Heck his bottom end has over 180k on it and it went 630 on fuel and 650 on meth.

The point I am trying to make here is this...
When you ask questions like your on a open forum, expect to have the internet believers say you have to have many things that in reality you will never need to accomplish your goal. The key is time and research what has worked for years and what else thats being said is nothing more than a gimmick.

Justin...
Yes Johns motor was assembled by him.....Andy

Yup, Joe D is getting my pump. My friend Jeff highly recommended him, and I really couldn't argue because Joe had his pump and before he sold his 98 he did 620 on fuel.

After seeing what you've said, I'm going to keep everything as simple as can be. If I only need pump work, a good set of injectors, and a turbo to make this goal, then that's all I'm doing.

Thanks Andy for the help!

Is their any advantage of swapping the cam in my 180 pump with one from a 215 pump will its out? I'm I better saving the money for down the road?
