Depends on what your doing with your truck. 0-rings have seen upwards of 70lbs, some say more. Fire Rings are for high timing engines, high temp engines, nitrous, high boost.... and so on 80+lbs.
Unless your building a all out pull or drag truck, O-rings will satisfy most needs!

Two key's of o-ringing.... You must have a BHJ Tool for the head, And the head must be surfaced.A BHJ Tool is a tool used for eliminating misalignment when cutting O-ring and receiver grooves.

The Cutter is used to cut conventional O-ring wire and receiver grooves for head gaskets. Four different cutting groove widths could be used but there's a standard for the 5.9L

Accuracy of the groove diameter is within .002".

O-Ring Register Plates are made of aluminum and precision machined to be engine specific. The register plate can be bolted to the cylinder head or the block. Locating dowel holes are used to accurately position the plate ensuring absolute concentricity of wire and receiver grooves.

O-ringing is the process of cutting a grove in the head, using a wire to compress against the gasket. Fire Ringing is when the gasket is laser cut to accept a wire and the wire seals directly on the head providing a "better seal". Dare not boost it cold

Thats good info Lucas....

I thought the o-ring was just stainless steel safety wire (0.040" or so)?

Thats pretty much what it is. There's tons of uses for O-ringing heads, Diffrent wires for diffrent applications, Some come in the head gasket it's self. I know what some folks use as wire but everyones diffrent, so , to each his own i guess. Gas/diesel use diffrent wires compression, nitrous all that good stuff effect the wire. but honestly I'm not sure how the wire type and size is determined!

Lastly, Fire-ringing is designed for guys who know its right, problems are rarely seen and head gasket failures are expected.....If the worst thing that happens at 5,000+RPM at that high of boost and egt is a scored cylinder I guess your in good shape , . If you have a fireringed truck , engine failures end up being part of life ....Maybe not because of the head gasket....but engine failures happen.

the nice thing about o-rings though is that you dont have to tough the block were fire rings you have to cut the head and block

Fire rings do not like heavy temp cycles that daily driving brings on,they will fail due to this.

O-rining the head is the better option for the double duty truck and if done correctly I have seen them hold well into the 100psi range.

i had my head and block o ringed.
I didn't know that Ladell and Lamar did that at ECD.

I can distinctly remember a converstation with them about only doing the heads due to not wanting to create issues with the block and the added chances of failure.
