id say she needs a clutch where did you find a short shift for a g56 ive looked all over for one cause my gd seal on the toploader keeps leaking and you have to oreder it from dodge who tells me there are 2000 on back order because they still run the g56 in the 2012 and they have had alot come back with the seal ripped maybe somone has a cure to my seal leak

blacksmokemoan, i take it that its a good difference? and if so what did you notice? and how much did it cost you, roughly?

VIPERONE, you could do a broke mans gasket. get the cardboard off of a beer box and make a gasket out of that and use RTV High Temp silicone on both sides and make sure the surface is clean, ive tried that on many things and it held me off untill i got the cash, i did it once on a thermostat housing and i havent changed it bc its still doing good and that was 3 years ago, its on my gaser but still, it worked and still is.

it's an nv5600.

Pretty sure I hate the short shifter though... but I wouldn't doubt if the shift forks are hammered now that you mentioned it (thanks bsm).. the shifter IS pretty sloppy and every once in a while 5th just isn't there for a second. about to do a fluid service and see what's up when I put the extra quart in. I was also told that the plastic roller on the end of the shifter might be broken, that is if this trans even has that.

Just bought tranny fluid from amsoil, as soon as it gets here ill put it in and let everybody know if it helped any, im thinking it is bad oil because last night after doing a little heavy pulling i had to fight to put it into reverse, even trying the trick of putting it in 4th first and it still didnt help.

changed out the fluid in and it helped out a lot! shifts smoother and i dont have to fight for reverse as much, thank you all for the help!

what weight of fluid. i know they may bea dumb *** question because i putting a new slave cylinder in my nv5600

Im using AMSOIL 5W-30 Synchromesh here is the link. you can put in your truck year model and make and it will tell you what you need.

AMSOIL Synthetic Automatic and Manual Transmission Fluid

Syncromesh...Redline MTL, Royal Purple SynchroMax, Pennzoil Synchromesh Fluid, Amsoil MTF, and others. But its got to be a synchromesh fluid...

it solved my problem, shifts better and better every day! and i also put 6qts to cover the front and back bearings for pulling up and down hills, thanks for the advice everyone!!!

finicky with fluid. Pretty sure the 5600's have brass syncros where as the 4500's have carbon fiber syncros. shift forks were around $70 depending on which one. I cheated on one of them and got the one that was all steel instead of the one with plastic or carbon buttons on it. Much tighter, just a little noisy when idling in neutral. I rebuilt my whole tranny for under $850 including 4qts mopar fluid at $20 a quart... and that was with a new bottom counter shaft ($1100 for mopar piece) but i got one for 350 new. Came out great.. Pretty strait forward transmissions. Glad you figured out yours!!
