My last one before the 06 was an 04.5 and by far, my favorite truck to date...I will always miss that particular truck...My 06 is ok but I hate the tranny, I am thinking the 08 will be another favorite...

Pretty much the same as the 05-07, but didn't the 05-07 have plastic tanks on the intercooler? I know my 04.5 has an all aluminum IC and I like the NV5600 better than the G56.
Nothing wrong with the earlier trucks, just a little less power and the 47RE trans wasn't that great. The 48RE started in 03 IIRC and other than a little less power than the 600 series engine, they are about the same.
the plastic intercooler was only in the early '05's and that is also the same timeframe for the G56 trans introduction and the in-tank lift pump.
IMHO if I were to get another it would be an '04.5 because if the aluminum I/C, NV5600 and filter mounted LP. The in-tank LP sucks if you want to go to something else, there is added cost to get rid of the in-tank pump(not to mention dropping the tank) the 5600 is plenty strong with an aftermarket clutch. The auto's are pretty much the same from '03.5 to '07, there were some software changes thru out the years. '06 and up is the only auto that is approved for an exhaust brake.
