I used a die grinder with a cutoff wheel for the last one I removed.

That is what I was thinking. Did you cut a slice in line with the splines and split it or did you notch it so a normal pitman puller would fit in there? Thanks for the reply

As I recall I cut into it at about a 30 degree angle to the shaft or whatever it was that I could easily approach it from. After it was down close to the shaft I knocked it free with a cold chisel and BFH. Try not to go laterally against the shaft or you could damage the seal. Use some anti-seize on the splines with the new pitman in case you ever need to take it off again. Loctite on the nut. 250 ft.lb. My measurement for that was basically cranking on it with a 3/4" breaker as hard as I could do. Probably close enough.

I couldn't find the right tool in time for my schedule so I used a regular pitman arm puller.
I cut grooves in the side so the puller would fit and cranked the **** out of it and smacked it with a hammer, still no go! So I took a cutoff wheel in the 4" grinder and sliced the end off carefully not to cut into splines. I got so close it cracked on it's own perfecto! still had to crank it hard but it came off and no marks in the splined shaft.
