My 05 ctd hasn't been doing so well. I have noticed that i do not hear the turbo "bark" or the release of the pressure when you let out of the throttle. For example stall it out like doing a burnout and let off you here the "bark" or "surge". I do that and no noise at all. I am smoking more that normal also (stock truck).All thats done to it is straight pipe and silencer ring mia. Should I have a noise? Is the wastegate stuck open? Any ideas?

 

if its a rubber line clamp it and see if it changes

 

If you have been doing much of that then you might very well have a turbo problem. They don't like a lot of that.

What is you boost doing under normal, loaded, and gettin' after it conditions? Thats your best gauge of turbo health.

 

my waste gate seems to not be working as well under lower rpms. u will lightly hit the gas pedal an then let off and it kinda makes the truck surge, idk if thts normal or not. it also seems to blow a little more smoke and its all stock. so my problem is similar to yours, anybody know?
