Default Maintenance..

I bought this truck used and the dealer did the oilchange before I left the lot and now It is oil change time.. and I was wondering what oil and fuel filters to get.. I stopped by Cummins the other day to get the filters but they have 3 diff fuel filters and I didnt know which one to get. The guy behind the counter couldnt tell me what the Microns were for the filters.. Also oil?? Rotella, Delo, Delvac?? any thoughts..

and finally I need a good price on some U-Joints front to back.. I have one bad one in the rear, but I figure if one is bad I might as well change them all and be done with it..

Napa's are around $35 and are serviceable. Now the bad news. The front onw will be about $120 for the joints and the socket kit. But, the time and stress getting the double cardan apart w/o destroying it, can buy a new one for $350.

I would say Amsoil for the oil!! The best thing for your engine and actually saves you money on oil changes.

I run Royal Purple oil and a k/N oil filter and a Napa gold for the fuel. I also do a oil analysis every 20,000 and its came back good so far and I have 79,000 on the truck. I also use rp in both diffs. U joints i have had great success with the precision u joints. That double cardan joint deal in the front grease the **** out of it i had 2 replace mine around 40,000. I think the drivetrain on these trucks suck ive replaced every thing besides the tranny and axels and its not turned up or abused and the most off road its seen was being parked in grass lmao. also wtf was with a dualmass fly wheel on a cummins Mercedes screwed us there thank god for south bend. Im still mopar forever tho had to get that off my chest . Maby the cummins is jus too badass. I think they did it on purpose to make money on parts tho. I need some steering parts and i cant find any greaseable **** anywhere and its driving me nuts anybody have a source for that?

2500 Sport,

Delo 400, Valvoline Blue, Mobil Delvac, Rotella are all good Dino oils, for synthetic Amsoil is the best, Royal Purple and for off the shelf so called synthetic oils Mobil One, Valvoline Blue Extreme, Rotella T6.

As for oil filters the best is the Donaldson Endurance ELF-7349 or the Amsoil EAO 80 they are the same filter and both are 15 micron, the Fleetguard Stratapore LF16035 is 25 micron.

Fuel filters the best is Baldwin PF7977 its 5 micron, the Fleetguard Stratapore FS19856 its 7 micron and both are W/F (aka Water fuel separators) Donaldson P550800 I think its 7 micron. FYI not all after market fuel filters take care of water in your fuel so be careful what filter you use.
