Question 6.0 Preventive Maintenance Mods ?

Hello All-
I am a newbie. Bought my first Diesel last Nov. 2006 F-250 SRW 4X4 Crew Cab Lariat, with 93k miles on it.
I don't use it to it's capacity....the only thing I have towed is my 17' bass boat.... To be honest, its twice the truck i need, but I really like Diesel's for there durability. I don't like that they cost a fortune to fix if something does break.

What preventive Maintenance and mods would you recommend to help ensure nothing bad happens to this lightly used 6.0 ?

I was planning to do the following:
I was reading that a external oil filtration kit is a good "insurance".
I also plan on doing the EGR delete.
While they are doing the EGR delete, I will have them check the oil cooler also.

I almost want to do the external oil cooler, but since I don't really push this truck it may be overkill ?

Thank You Very Much, for any insight

An external oil cooler is QUITE expensive. It's cheaper to do a good job on an OEM cooler with ELC coolant.

Maintenance is all about spending money. Buy only quality fluids, use OEM filters, and always read up on the issues.

Good advice, don't spend money on a remote filter/cooler.
Although and external trans cooler is a good investment if your towing.

Thanks for the feed back guys !
I just ordered my EGR Delete from Rudy's Diesel.

I am also going with a coolant and oil filter (2 microns) from Sinister Diesel. I hear that a coolant filter is a MUST. It prevents clogging the oil cooler.

Since the mechanic has to take off the intake to do the EGR delete anyway, I figure I might as well throw a OEM oil cooler in there also. The Labor is twice as expensive as the part, so I figure since he will be looking at the oil cooler might as well replace it now.

HEAVY ASSAULT- My mechanic agrees with you on the oil cooler. He actually said that with an external oil cooler temps are a little bit higher ? Maybe it depends on if its an air cooled or water cooled cooler? I think putting a new OEM oil cooler, plus this filtration system, I should be well covered?

HYPERTECH PROGRAMER ?
I been reading that this is the safest programmer for 6.0 that are not studded with ARP. I love the idea of increased HP and MPG. But I'm very cautious as I'm afraid it may cause damage since my truck is stock. Don't want extra HP if there is a risk of doing damage.

If I go with the programmer I will definitely get gauges. What gauges do ya'll recommend?

Much thanks !

Lotta guys like the SCT with custom tunes, I have seen trucks with Eric's tunes from innovative that were pretty impressive for non studded trucks. There are some good tune writers advertised here using SCT tuner also.
