Question 03 parts vs. 05 parts

I ran across a 03 identical to my 05 that has been rolled. What parts could I use on my 05? We arent sure the motor is still good or not because it landed upside down and wasnt running when the tow truck got there. I can get it for around $600. What do yall think I should do?

you can get the whole truck for $600? BUY IT!! The motors pretty different. But the tranny, if NV5600 or 48re are the same. Transfer case the same, axles the same. All the body parts and parts from the interior are the same. If you can get it for 600, buy it and just part it out.

Im not 100% sure, but I think if you use the computer off the 03 it might work. The main difference is the injectors and pistons on the 03 are designed for a 2 injection event and the 05 is a 3 injection event. But if the engine was left running when it was upside down there is a good chance that there is internal damage.

Cummins has a sensor that must be reset when it detects a vehicle rolled. In other words - the engine in the 03 would have shut down long before damge could have resulted. $600 is an absolute steal and yes you would need to swap the computers and one more thing if it is an auto - some 03's had the 47re instead of the 48re - totally different electronics but your could swap them also. Both years are excellent engines and since they last a million miles if you take care of then you are now set up for retirement- you would be getting a better return on your investment than an Obama inspired 401k -
