Does anyone know if the aftermarket clutches rattle, or is this just common for all clutches

Which trans does your '05 have? That was the year when Dodge transitioned from the cast-iron NV-5600 to the aluminum G-56. My NV-5600 has growled since I bought in new... even with the South Bend Con O FE.

In the NV-5600, the noise is just the spring-loaded hub in the clutch disc and totally normal.

Can't speak for the G-56 as I've never driven one, but I can say that they use a dual-mass flywheel and have a different clutch design. I'm guessing they also would have a spring loaded hub and would therefore also growl, but don't hold me to that.

The rattle is called "critical power moment"...the guts of the trans and the clutch are vibrating back and forth because its lugging. My 04.5 did it the day I drove it off the lot at zero miles...I got nearly 200k out of the OE clutch.

I currently have a Southbend OFe, and it rattles but I don't care knowing it will hold better.

I had an 05 dually with the cast iron G-56 that did the same thing, I changed the oil to the synthetic 50w that eaton uses in semi transmissions and it took care of 98% of the noise. I put around 100,000 mi on it towing as heavy as 35,000 gross and never had a problem. This oil is a little thick when cold and causes a little stiff shifting until warm,
Good Luck!!
