Depending on what you are working on. I usually practice on it without it running to see what it is going to take to get to the belt without getting bit by the belt. Only once have I had issues when performing the task, that resulted in a loss of fingerprints when the soap slipped from under my finger and got "erased" by the speeding belt that it came in contact with.
