from what i understand if its poped it sends the fuel back to the tank so if u cap it it stops the fuel from going to the tank and the pressure will build up and hopefully your truck will start. i think its supposed to pop if ur rail pressure exceeds 28,000 psi

when i used to work on heavy equipment, i had a couple dozers doin the same thing..it would run great for a few minutes, then would start losing power, then die...and it wouldnt crank back unless u had startin fluid..it was runnin off the fuel in the filters, but once they were empty, that was it...checked all fuel lines 2 see if any were collapsed, checked fittings everwhere to see if it was sucking air anywhere...everthing was good, except the lift pump...1st one i ordered was a brand new one put it on, same problem..ordered a 2nd new one, installed it, dozer ran like a champ. not sayin this is the case with ur truck, but its some experiences i have ran across..this was on CASE dozers, and CASE uses CUMMINS!!! maybe this will help man, sure hope ya get it fixed.
