Dear baddogbard- I hope we are not trashing this thread by going off subject but the Chrysler 727 based transmissions ( Which your 48re is - its basically an updated 727 more internals and stronger with an overdrive attached!) can be made to be the strongest of ALL transmissions!!! The aftermarket has jumped on the bandwagon and there is many quality technitions that can turn your stock tranny into the ability to handle any power level you could throw at it. The basic 727 could be made so strong that some of the original top fuel dragsters used modified 727's to run the quarter. By the time you pay for the new allison or 68re and convertor and electronics you would have way more money in your truck and would not be as strong as the same money or less spent on a 48re. All of us try to spend money wisely in this economy and keeping the 48re in my book is the only way to go. And guess what? It already fits in you truck !

Thank you so much for the input. Now I have to find a decent transmission builder in my area.
