Default Front Pinion Seal?

I have a slight leak dribbling down my Front Axle coming from where the Driveshaft bolts onto it.

I assume this would be a Front Pinion Seal that is leaking? I check my fluids about once a week and not really down yet so I don't think it is really bad but would/should change it asap. Local parts place can not get these seals, only dealer from what I am hearing.

Do you really need to 'remove hub bearings and axle shafts' like the manual says? Shouldn't you be able to just pull the front yoke off and get the seal out?

Any suggestions from anyone that has done this? What should I look out for if any gothca's or jsut straight forward, pull and replace.

Thanks. Scott

I got the same problem Scott as well as a rear main leak....:mad2:
I have talked to the dealer on the frnt pinion seal that will cost me about 150 alone, I am hoping that since they will have to do the rear seal on the motor as well they will figure that into the total WARRANTY cost and only charge me the 100 deductible for everything..........

I can only hope

Boy, I never thought about this possibly being a warranty item. I currently have 64k on the truck and I might be able to pull it off.

Usually I just buy the part and install myself. Wouldn't mind staying clean and dry watching them as I watch their TV programs...

I wont touch it until there is no longer a warranty issue, then I will worry about getting dirty!!! Kinda nice just droppin it off having the work done and then pickin it up the next day or so

i thought my pinion seal was shot also, at about 20k
brought it in and they said its just the EGR breather which is right above the pinion
crawl under there and take a look right above the pinion

my pinion seal used to leak a little until I changed out a bad u-joint in the cardon joint on the front drive shaft. I couldn't it feel it vibrate until about 85mph.

I believe you are correct. Upon cleaning my front axle, I cleaned the breather tube and noticed how it drools onto the axle. I have checked several times and never missing any fluid from the axle which I thought was strange if it was leaking.

So drooling tube was my problem.
