Hi all,
I am a new diesel owner. I just purchased a 2004 Dodge 3500 with 212k miles.
I am having trouble with excessive black smoke at all times. The injectors were all replaced, and I was able to talk to the mechanic who did the work to confirm they were new replacements. I took it to the dealer and had a reflash done back to stock specs. Still black smoke. I dont have a boost gauge installed to check pressures yet. There seems to be good power and no missing just lots of smoke. The air cleaner is new. I have not done a boost leak check, just inspected all conentions and all look good. You can here the turbo spool up so I assume its is working. Any suggestions? Thanks
Rick

Temp gauge issue needs to be addressed. Maybe a hint to another issue (electrical). Check for boost leaks by pressurizing, not just looking. Physically check turbo condition. Have a "reputable" mechanic / shop scan the computer. Not Auto Zone or the parts changer at the stealership. Your looking for more than codes. I'm curious what the boost sensor is "seeing".
