What oil do you guys recommend
Hey everyone, I will be purchasing a used 2006 dodge RAM 3500 or Ford F-250 with the 7.3 power stroke engine Haven't quite decided which one yet. anyways, I Was wondering What is a really good quality diesel oil that you recommend? We do get some pretty cold winters so keep that in mind but our summers can get into the 90s as well. I wouldn't do a crap load of pulling but it will haul a lot of firewood from time to time. I have had great luck with Aimsoil in my gas trucks, but i have heard some bad things about their diesel oil. I would also like to do an extended drain interval between the 8-12k mile mark as well. My apologies if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find any threads with the search bar. Thanks for your input - MAC

Briefly: As gunman41mag said. As well, the MOST important thing is REGULAR services.
2 things additionally: 1st, Compare "facts" before ruling out a particular brand. Not "hear say"
2nd, due to the fact that the 7.3 (6.0 as well) uses the engine oil to "run" the injectors, extended drain intervals "in my opinion" is both short sighted financially and injector suicide. Considering the cost of PSD injectors, why would one not perform 5,000 mile services? If one still insists on extended drain intervals, at least pull regular samples for analysis by Blackstone, Amsoil, your local CAT SOS Lab (just to name a few).
Me personally: Off the shelf, I prefer Rotella. That being said, For the last year, a bit over 8,000 mi (truck has been sitting a lot), on my 2nd service, I have been running Delo. No complaints. It was on sale. Bought like 3 cases . Next go around, I'll be switching to Amsoil. It's in my trans, transfer case, I run it in my fuel (the fuel adds), it will be in my diffs as well.
All that needed? Probably debatable. I do have a second 05 Cummins with 327,000 miles that runs perfectly and all it's had is regular services with "nothing fancy" oils. "But" it's stock.
