engine vibration
I have a very annoying vibration from the engine that I cant seem to cure.
its a vibration that you can feel through the pedal, through the seats, and the steering wheel. it rises and falls with rpm, its there at idle, cruising, and in short, anytime the engine is running. the engine seems a bit noisier too especially in the cab. seems all it does is make noise, resonance, and vibration, and not so much power. in park at around 1200 rpm it will bounce the tow mirrors enough to blur the glass. Under the hood the transmission dipstick vibrates wildly, enough that its a yellow blur. if you put a spray can on the top of the valve cover it will walk off the side of the engine, the little plastic tube on the throttle cable on the bell crank vibrates causing it to rotate around in a circle on the shaft. and the engine itself shakes you can feel it especially if you grab hold of the intake horn. that side seems to shake worse than the other side of the engine. maybe that's just my imagination Not sure where to go from here, I have replaced the crankshaft damper two days ago, that didn't help any. oh and also the exhaust tip bounces up and down at idle enough that you can see it a few paces away. Im about ready to park it until I can get it resolved. Any thoughts would be a great help.
Thanks in advance

Can diesel shops do the test or only the dealer? What do you fear might be wrong? I probably should have given some info on the history of the truck. id like to think the engine is healthy. it was rebuilt 14,000 miles ago at which time new 60 hp industrial injection injectors were installed. several external things were reused in an attempt to save on the cost of rebuilding including engine mounts, which probably have 230,000 miles on them.

Ive wondered about the transmission mount. my truck has the transfer case shifter on the floor (where it belongs). if you grab the shifter while going down the road, you can feel the transmission rocking and jolting as it shifts, or as the truck goes over bumps in the road. granted the shocks probably don't help. they are the original with over 230,000 miles on them. is it normal to feel every bump and pebble coming through the shifter ? The truck is an auto. The harmonic balancer was replaced Saturday. it did help a little. I had a buddy at work who has a 12 valve with 160000 miles. we took turns putting a hand on one engine and then the other and we both agreed that my common rail seemed to vibrate a little more than his 12 valve. that didn't seem right. I think that it should run smoother the down pipe isn't touching anywhere it shouldn't. Thanks again for the help.

Transmission Vibration 48RE
Replying to old thread to see if you found what the issues was. It just started with me, thought it was the harmonic balancer and replaced it with a fluid damper, no change. Then I noticed if I take it out of over drive it went away, even at the same RPM's and after about two weeks I got a groaning noise out of the transmission when out of OD. Looking to understand the issue a bit more before I take it in. I'm guessing it's the torque converter. But was wondering what your end problem and solution was.
