If I don't have access to one of the wrenches how hard is it to break the nut loose and what size of wrench is it? I need to get it changed out sooner then later now because I was backing my 5th wheel in the backyard this weekend and the ground was still pretty soft, so I had to use the 4wd and it set the trans temp alert on my edge. So I think by fixing this it will help keep the trans a little cooler. When towing down the road though it's fine and the engine doesn't get of 203 degrees and trans runs about 190 degrees. I know this i only a waiting game of when I will have to build the trans, but if I could get a little more use out of it before dropping the 4K to have it built will help out!

is that with the pulley and bearing and the offset bracket? I just got a lifetime torqflo from autozone same as rockauto for $55 plus tax two days ago. got a 36mm wrench from northern tool for $12 and put a little xtra pressure on the belt with the tensioner. and wacked it with a hammer clockwise. didn't even have to remove the shroud. pretty easy. a recent flush and coolant change due to a new radiator and its stayin about 170 farenheit at 60 degrees.

The electronically controlled viscous fan drive/fan
blade assembly is attached (threaded) to the fan
pulley shaft. Remove the fan blade/fan drive
assembly from fan pulley by turning the mounting
nut counterclockwise (as viewed from front).
Threads on the viscous fan drive are RIGHTHAND.
A 36 MM Fan Wrench can be used. Place a
bar or screwdriver between the fan pulley bolts to
prevent pulley from rotating.

Use a hammer to smack to wrench helps to. If you do get a wrench, weld a couple beads near on the open end so it doesn't spread apart.

Newbi98, my fan clutch assembly is $213.99 from Autozone. Wildbill, thanks for the instructions. Sounds like it should be pretty easy, but we all know that when we say something is easy, it ends up being a B!&*@!

Alright guys, I have got my parts for the fan clutch and started to attempt to take it off last night and man, that nut is on there good! So I'm asking for some help here with what you guys have done! Tricks, Tips, or maybe some better swear words I can yell at it to maybe scare it off! Anyways, any help I could get it going to be appreciated!

And by the way I got the fan clutch, water pump, Tstat and gasket and belt for my rig all off of RockAuto.com for what they wanted just for the fan clutch at Autozone.

Well here is the report on the fan clutch! I gave up last Tuesday when the wrenches I was using were getting bigger from trying to get the fan clutch off. Go figure from a Autozone wrench set! Anyways, I called the main man at RKL Diesel in Springville Utah and he hooked me up! Took him the new fan clutch and my truck and it was fixed in 30 minutes! Cost, 50 bucks. If you're in the Utah area look this guy up cuz he knows his stuff and really tries to help people out. Truck is running good and fan turns on at 212 degrees. Thanks again guys for all the help and info!
