Lift uo the rear with the front wheels chocked and truck in neutral, adjust the star wheel until it drags slightly to moderate, if that can not be accomplished best to check the shoes before adjusting the cable. Cable is kinda like last resort. The star wheel should be able to adjust the shoes. The ebrake shoes see no use when you have rear rotors besides parking, unless someone drove with the ebrake on there should be no issues with them. If you have drums thats different since the shoes serve two purposes to brake and to park and are much more common to have issues once they wear down in normal use. Sometimes backing up about 10-20 feet and aggressively pressing the brake pedal can help and adjust itself. Sometimes you have to do it a few times but more than likely with drums they need manual adjustment at the star wheel
