53 block question???

Got a 53 out of a bus with over 400k on it. No cracks and i'm not even worried about it.
I have a friend who's 53 cracked at 160k. Had a shop drill it with a small bit at each end and then lay 3 big welds over top of it.
He now has over 300k on it with no leaks or other cracks. And he has twins on it as well.
