Sounds kinda like my problem but mine was a frayed TV cable.

 

Not sure this helps, but I had changed my TPS when I got a code. After a year I started having a miss or slight dead pedal at freeway speeds. It felt like getting hit with a big gust of wind. Since I changed the TPS a year before I read about the lift pump issue's. So I changed the lift pump and put in a fuel pressure gauge. It worked for a month or so, then the problem again. I check my valve adjustments and ran injector cleaners with no help. I read enough about the VP44 problems here and had it changed since the problem was very intermittent and the mechanic couldn't diagnos it. It took well over an hour of driving for the problem to occur. So I had a rebuilt VP44 pump put in, and it was still doing the problem. This time I drove it till it started to fail, I rolled up to my mechanic to throw his snap on code reader to find the TPS was all over the map. I changed it AGAIN, but this time I connected a pig tail to the sensor wire. Well another year nearly passed and it started up again. This time I connected a volt meter to the pick tail and could see my voltage was changing without any input from my foot.....another bad TPS #3. At least it was under warranty from NAPA. I've now added a pig tail to the +5V input to watch what the ECM is throwing at it if it fails again. I love my truck, wouldn't think to get another one, unless I won the lottery.
